We’ve been talking a lot about the effects of 9/11 on the victims, rescuers, and families of those who perished. However, 9/11 had effects on the whole country as well. One effect is that airport security has changed dramatically.
As this ThinkQuest describes:
It used to be that travelers only had to show ID when they were checking in. Only two questions were asked: Did you pack your own bags? Have your bags been seen outside your control? You could bring sharp objects on the plane such as, pen knives, box cutters, and sharp scissors. You rarely had to put your shoes through a metal detector. All you had to do was arrive minutes before the flight and you wouldn’t have to rush to get on. Family or friends could accompany you to the gate and say good- bye.
