So sweatshops exist only in foreign countries, right? Wrong. All across the U.S.A. there are sweatshops that treat workers horribly so that we (you and me) can buy cheap stuff and they (the companies) can make mucho mula. One of the biggest centers of sweatshops is Los Angeles. In the film Made in L.A., you’ll learn about how three women fought against Forever 21 to make them treat their workers better.
Watch part 1 by clicking HERE. Then, answer the three questions below:
1. How is the life of sweatshop workers in L.A. the same as those in Indonesia? How is it different?
2. Why is it that poor immigrants (newcomers) end up working at sweatshops? Why don’t they work as lawyers or doctors or at Mcdonalds?
3. Predict what’s going to happen by the end of this movie
